Hi Everyone,

I want to let you know about this opportunity, especially if you are considering going back to school for your Masters. This is a chance to sit in on University of Hartford's, Low Residency MFA in Illustration Program as they meet at the Society of Illustrators in NYC.

Details from Ronni Mitten, Marketing and Advertising are below:

We have a great opportunity for your members.

The MFA Program will be conducting their Fall session at the Society of Illustrators in NYC in November.
If any of your members would like to come by to visit the program in session and meet with our administrators, they can contact me and I will arrange their visit.

We are able to accept visitors at this location on Monday, November 12, Wednesday, November 14 and Thursday, November 15.

It is an amazing opportunity to see the program in session and meet our students from all over the United States and abroad.  In addition, we would like to extend an invitation to our reception for current students, alumni and prospective students on Wednesday evening, November 14. Please have all those interested contact me for details.

We would like your members to know that we will be at the November 11, 2012 Graduate Portfolio Day at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. We will have representatives there to speak with anyone interested in finding out how to obtain their advanced degree in the ONLY Low Residency MFA program dedicated exclusively to illustration in the United States.

From 3X3:

We're entering our ninth year judging the world's best illustration. Unlike many shows we have no boundaries, our entrants come from every part of the globe. We're still one of the best values around when it comes to entry fees and publication fees. And we continue to improve our entry process.

And unlike most show annuals that are on the bookshelves our annuals are prominently displayed on the newsstands in the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and parts of Asia where we're affordable to art directors and art buyers who may or may not be interested in illustration. We have seen a dramatic growth in the number of outlets stocking our annual and the sales to art directors.

It is our mission to demonstrate the benefits of using illustration, this annual is our showcase.

Our international panel of judges for this year's 3x3 ProShow include Jordan Awan, Art Director, The New Yorker; Andrew J. Nilsen, Art Director, SF Weekly; Gary Cochran, Art Director, London Telegraph; Shayne Pooley, Creative Director, Ogilvy & Mather, Hong Kong and illustrators Brian Stauffer; Valeria Petrone, Italy; Rod Hunt, United Kingdom and Marco Wagner, Germany.

Open to all illustrators, art directors, graphic designers, editors and publishers in all countries for commissioned and non-commissioned work produced and/or published during the calendar year 2011.

This year's categories include advertising, animation, books, editorial, fashion, gallery, graphic novels, institutional, medical, posters, sci-fi, self-promotion, sequential, three-dimensional and unpublished.

Single entries are $30, Series (3-5 images) are $35.

We will award Gold, Silver, Bronze and Distinguised Merit awards and a Best of Show Award. Best of Show winner's will receive a cash prize of $1500, Gold Medal winners will receive a cash-value prize of $750.

Deadline for the ProShow is March 9. All entries must be uploaded or postmarked no later than this date.

Small Works Show

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to pass this along to you from Chris Noel.
Please let others know as well.

Small Works + Big Hearts

The Artists’ Gallery of Frederick will be filled with over 100 small works created by gallery members in all media including painting, photography, ceramics, printmaking and sculpture. In the spirit of the season, 10% of all sales will be donated to the Frederick Community Action Agency which provides a broad array of programs and services including the food bank and the Frederick Soup Kitchen.

This is a great opportunity for both new and seasoned collectors to acquire original art at affordable prices. Our members are grateful for the opportunity to create small works that can make a big difference this holiday season. Shoppers can help make a difference too as they invest in one-of-a-kind gifts by local artists.
